INTRO TO WORLD PERCUSSION

Learn the fundamentals of World Music percussion

Your child will have fun playing various percussive instruments such as Conga, Bongos, Clave, Djembe, cajon, and various other hand instruments,


This camp will teach your child to:

  • Learn the names of each instrument and how they are played.

  • Learn how to count music using 2-3 and 3-2 clave patterns. (Son, Rumba, and

    Bossa Nova)

  • Learn the common rhythmic patterns often used with clave patterns.

    (Cascara, Montuno, and Mambo.)

  • Learn how to play and accompany these patterns on each instrument.

  • Discuss the history of these patterns. (Uses in dance, cultural origination.)

  • Discuss the use of these concepts in modern music.

  • Arrange a song as a class using these concepts; letting students take solos.

  • Dancing will be frequent, as you can’t play this music standing still.

CAMP DATES

All of these camps are Monday - Friday from 9AM - 12PM

Ages best suited for this camp would be from 7 - 11

June 15 - 19 in Wesley Chapel
