We want you to be successful with music lessons. Below is important info that will help you get the most out of music lessons.
What we teach at Tampa Fine Arts Academy is so much more than technique and learning to read sheet music.
We provide the tools for students to be creative, confident and persistent when embarking on a new challenge or obstacle in life. We formulate realistic goals that students can and will achieve. For example, a young voice student may have a goal to improve clarity and eloquence in their tone which helps him/her become more confident and become a better speaker and influencer in school and ultimately the workforce.
Music lessons are an investment in education. Learning a valuable skill is a process. In this day and age of instant gratification, it’s natural to feel the need to hear incremental improvements every week. Unfortunately, progress isn’t always consistent. Neither is practice. Just like stock graphs there are always peaks and valleys in performance. Children may start lessons with the expectation of being able to sing like Ariana Grande, play guitar like Jimi Hendrix with very little or no work.
One of the most valuable lessons you can teach your child is that nothing worthwhile is ever achieved without putting in the necessary work. Having your child power through the rough patches will build a tremendous amount of character and provide the fortitude necessary for them to keep going and not just give up when things don’t come easy.
The best way to give an honest assessment of progress is student performances in showcases and recitals. We have multiple opportunities for students to participate in these performances both big and small. We also have opportunities to test students every 3 to 6 months where they can earn special awards and trophies in our Musical Ladder System.
Parental involvement is key to having a successful lesson experience with children, especially young ones. It is not realistic for a six year old to go off and practice their instrument on their own every day. The best thing you can do as parents is provide moral support and encouragement.
If you notice that your child is not practicing as much as you would like or not enjoying the lessons like you hoped, please do not hesitate to contact us at 813-722-0962. This is more common than you may think. A lot of times, we have been able to resolve these issues with either talking to the teacher, switching to a different time, different instrument, or even different teacher.
If getting your child to practice is frustrating or a struggle, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We have numerous tips that can help you minimize the frustration and make the learning at home a much more pleasant experience.
